Maggie Crawford to teach classes next week

May 14, 2010

I am so excited to announce that one of our favorite guest teachers, Maggie Crawford, will be here next weekend to teach three classes.  The first will be a card class using Elizabeth Craft glitter.  The stunning results had everyone talking at CHA in January.  You will make three  cards, shown below:

This class meets Friday, May 21, at 1:30p.m.

The next class Maggie will teach is a scrapbook class.  You will make a 2 page layout using We R Memory Keepers new line “Old Glory.”  Now you can get your layout done for those July 4th pictures ahead of time.  After the holiday, all you will need to do is just print them out and adhere them to your pages.  Here is what this fabulous layout looks like:

The class meets Saturday morning, May 22, at 10:30a.m.  Maggie has never taught a class for just you scrapbookers and I hope you will be able to come and show her how much you appreciate her class just for you.  Maggie will be teaching some techniques in this class too, so it should be a fun time.

Lastly, Maggie will teach another of her fabulous Ranger card classes.  Using a lot of the new Ranger product that they introduced at CHA in January, like the distress inks, you will make 4 cards as shown below:

Maggie’s Ranger class is always a lot of fun.  Hope you can join us on Saturday, May 22, at 2:00 p.m.

All three classes are only $25 each which includes all supplies.  Just bring your basic kit.  Stop by and sign up or give us a call.  It is going to be a wonderful weekend.

Check out this super-cute and fun Easter banner:

It’s another Dottie original.  This one just makes me smile.  It’s so fresh and spring-like.

Here’s a close-up of a couple of the tags to show all the detail.  They are also decorated on the back so if you are in the classroom tomorrow for our Make ‘n Take you can see that side too.

Spring Fling a big success!

March 28, 2010

It’s official.  We know how to have fun at Creating Lasting Memories.  Our first Spring Fling on Saturday was 7 hours of non-stop card making excitement.  We made seven birthday cards and now have a nice supply (and absolutely NO excuse for not sending a card full of wishes).

The teachers were all good sports and wore these fun chef hats & aprons we acquired at CHA.  Check out Shari in this photo:

There was lots of good food to eat and plenty of chocolate. I don’t think they minded the hourly prize drawings either!

It was a great time for young and old alike.  Here’s Dottie with her granddaughter Jenn who was visiting from California.  What a treat to get to know her better.

I just want to say a special word of thanks to all 6 of my fabulous teachers: Shari Townley, Marti Arrell, Allene Fewell, Loye Rich, Chris Liles, and Bonnie Bremer.  You guys are wonderful, creative and so supportive.  I couldn’t have done it without you.

Watch for posts of their very creative cards.  I’ll try to give you some instructions on how they were made, similar to what I did after World Card Making Day.

Have a great week and be sure to take some time for ART.

New Goodies

March 24, 2010

I thought it was time to share with you some of the awesome new stuff that has arrived in the store just this week.

Check out these Vintage Buttons by Bazzill:

Next, I got in an order from Technique Tuesday, one of my favorite companies.  They have more wonderful chipboard for scrapbookers like this:

technique tuesday 12x12

I love the way they include page layout ideas right in the package.  For those of you who take Jacki’s class on Saturday morning, be watching for a great page kit she picked up to do in her class.

Technique Tuesday has also come up with these great card kits.    each kit comes with all the supplies to make 5 cards.  You get pre-cut papers, clear stamps, acrylic block, ink, well everything you need to make the 5 cards shown on the front plus some extras to make something of your own design. I will be teaching a class next month using one of these kits.  This one is for sale now:

I am loving the new Smooch spritz sprays by Clear Snap.  We practically sold out of the first set of colors.  We got in the new set of colors plus more of the first set.  Here is a picture of that new set (the “Wine” is a very nice color):

The last thing I’d like to share with you is a new set of Easter cling stamps from Our Daily Bread.  If you are looking to make some cards for Resurrection Sunday, you will love these:

Tomorrow is Make ‘n Take Thursday.  We’ll be making a card using an adorable bunny stamp by Inkadinkado (thanks Dottie for the card idea).  For the demo, we will be exploring a watercolor technique using Gelly Roll metallic pens and Outline Stickers (another new product that came in this week).  You will love this coloring option for your stamped or scraped projects.

Wishing you a day filled with ART.

One Little Word

December 28, 2009

For the past three years, I have been a fan of the “One Little Word” idea.  If you aren’t familiar with the concept, the idea is to select a word – yep, just one word – and let it be your guide/inspiration for the coming year.  I love doing something new with the New Year.  So this is a small thing to do  that you can keep to yourself or share publicly.  It’s really up to you how you use it.  For more information on the topic, check out Allie Ewards’ blog here.

As I said, this will be my third year to pick a word (or perhaps it is that the word picked me).  My words so far:

2008: Glorify

2009: Joy

2010: Hope

It is sometimes helpful to find something to remind you of your word.  Last year I found this cool not-so-little word block JOY on sale at Fred Meyer.  It was even 50% off since it was part of their after Christmas sale.

2009 one little word

2009 one little word

Now as the year draws to a close, I plan to do some piece of art that expresses what I have learned about Joy this year.  I’m thinking a scrapbook page but more to come as I complete that project.  But for now I just want to encourage you to check out this idea and see if it might not be something you want to try this year.

And here is by “reminder” item for my 2010 word.

Lovin’ my Tim Holtz tags

December 27, 2009

Where are your tags??

Where are your tags??

Well, it was a decidedly crazy and fun time making Tim’s 12 tags of Christmas 2009.   Fun to play with all those new techniques with some of the best friends a girl can have.  But crazy trying to get all the cool supplies in and all that with Christmas fast approaching.  So what I want to know is, what have you done with your tags?  I got this great idea from Dottie; she even gave me the swag.  I put the swag over the bar in my house as it  seems that all of our windows have shades that need to be pulled down when the sun hits that side of the house (yes, even though we live in Oregon we do occasionally see the sun). I think they look great hanging on the greenery.  Plus they are on display for everyone else to see and enjoy.

Here’s a close up:

oh pretty little tags

So tell me, where have you put your tags?  Take a picture if you can.  And thanks, Dottie, for the great idea.

Embossed Poinsettia

November 11, 2009

Great Impressions Poinsettia

Great Impressions Poinsettia

For those of you who like poinsettia cards, here is a beautiful layered one.  This card uses the Great Impressions poinsettia K40.  First stamp it on green using a watermark pad.  Next, stamp it twice on red shimmer card stock and once on red vellum.  Emboss one of the red shimmer poinsettias using Red Chili Pepper embossing powder.  Emboss the other two using Butter Rum opaque embossing glitter.   All embossing powders are by PK Glitz.  Cut out all three of the embossed poinsettias and layer them on top of each other.  For the  bottom layer, I cut out all of the flowers, but  for the top I cut out only some of the petals. The top two layers are adhered with foam mounting squares for some added dimension.  The Merry Christmas is an outline sticker.  We finally got in quite a few packages of these.  As a final “extra” I added some red rhinestones to the holly berries and outlined the leaf veins using a glitter pen.

As always, you can find all the supplies to make this card at Creating Lasting Memories.

Cards on display at the Chetco library

Creating Lasting Memories is this month’s guest artist at the Chetco library.  Stop by the display in the lobby and check out the featured cards, scrapbooks and altered books.  I included a lot of typed information about the hobby along with the samples.  So far, the feedback has been very positive.  Let me know what you think.

Joy Peace Hope card

November 3, 2009

cropped Here’s a great card by Chris Liles, one of our fantastic, creative volunteers at Creating Lasting Memories.  She works on Fridays if you want to stop by and say, “Hi.” This card was made using pearlescent embossing paste and Dreamweaver stencil LJ896 (that lovely big flourish).  The card stock is Prism Classic Red.  You will need an 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 for the base and one 4 x 5 1/4 for the top.  It is layered to Prism white cut 4 1/8  x 5  3/8.  The sentiment is Cornish Heritage Farms ML7008FUM Christmas Traditions.  This unmounted cling set has a bunch of seasonal sayings.  Chris stamped it and embossed with Red Chili Pepper embossable glitter from PKGlitz.  It was die cut with Spellbinders labels 3.  If I was making a lot of these cards, I would cut all the red top cardstock pieces at once, then emboss them all and leave overnight to dry.  But if you hate to wait for things to dry (I know how that feels too) Chris said it worked just fine to hit it with the heat gun briefly.  If you want to add a little more bling, put some clear or silver rhinestones on some of those dots and tie a sheer ribbon around the top.

As with all of these cards we will be featuring on the blog this month, you can find all the supplies she used at the store.  Happy holidays!

Halloween tags in the window

Halloween tags in the window

Aren’t these tags just too darn cute for words?  This is what Dottie made me.  And this is what you see in the window looking in from the outside.  each tag has a letter on it to say “Halloween.”

now for the inside….

tags in 1

tags in 2

tags in 3

Each one is different and so stinking cute.  I feel so blessed to have a friends who support the store like this.  I think Dottie needs to teach some classes, don’t you?
